Thank you for joining us in The Walk to Defeat ALS in memory of Katie Hammock. The ALS Walk is on September 22 at the MS Braves stadium. Sign-in begins at 9am, with the walk starting at 10am.
Katie Hammock was a very outgoing person who enjoyed spending time with others and loved to be with her family as much as possible.
Katie was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Scleroisis, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, in December of 2017. Family first noticed her symptoms beginning soon after Mother's Day of 2014. While celebrating, Katie fell and broke her arm. The treatment for the broken bone was not helping like it should have. When her doctor realized normal treatment was not working for her, he scheduled Katie for surgery. After surgery the healing process was still not progressing as is should. Again, another surgery was needed. Unfortunatley, by that time Katie had become very weak and was having trouble eating, drinking and walking. Katie had also started having stroke like symptoms. During an emergency room visit the doctors pondered for an explanation to Katie's symptoms. Very disturbed by this they decided to admit her to the hospital for additional testing and lab work. After doing a barium swallow test with failed results, the doctor confirmed her final diagnosis of Amyotohpic Lateral Sclerosis. This disease progressed extremely fast. Katie Hammock left us on Saturday July 14, 2018 to spend a pain-free eternity with our Lord.
